Masayo has been offering koto and shamisen lessons for over 30 years. Students are from kids, adults, to elderly people. Lessons are offered in Midtown west, Manhattan in New York City. One lesson is 1-hour long. You will be asked to take 2 lessons per month. Each student should have own instrument to practice at home, but does not need to bring for lessons.

Where are the koto and shamisen lessons?

Midtown Manhattan, West Side, a block from the 42nd Street A,C, E, subway station and a short distance from Times Square. Please contact us for more information.

How much for each lesson?

Private lessons only (no group lessons): 2 lessons per month minimum requirement, $180 per month. If you want to come more than twice per month that can be scheduled.

  • I offer these options for non-regular student. One 1-hour lesson $150 per lesson Or, One 1.5-hour lesson at $180 per lesson.

Do I need to bring my instrument to the lesson?

No, you can use one of my kotos or shamisens.

When are lessons offered?

Generally, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (last lesson starts at 7:00 p.m.)
If it is not convenient for you, we can discuss it with you.

Can I take a trial lesson?

We offer trial lessons for those who are interested in playing Koto or Shamisen, and give it a try for decision . The trial lesson is 45-60 min. , $30. In the lesson, I will give you more detailed information of instrument purchase, classes, and activities of our group. Please contact me!
